DIAMONDS, CASH, AND A BLOODY GARDENING GLOVE

While transplanting the rosebush her church's handsome greeter, Ethan Banning, inadvertently killed, Summer and Ethan discover a hidden stash of diamonds, a rusty can full of cash, and a bloody-gardening glove. This discovery sets Summer and her candy-making aunt on a search for a killer.

As Summer gets closer to the truth-not only of the theft but of her true feelings for Ethan-the diamond thief hatches a plan to hush the feisty sleuth.

Fudge-Laced Felonies by Cynthia Hickey was my first introduction to Christian Cozy Mysteries, and what an amazing impression it left on me! The story opens with Summer Meadows looking for a murderer in church, of all things! This already grabbed my attention, thinking...really?

This book was so fun and easy to read, I had a hard time putting it down. I kept thinking to myself, seriously, how can I be enjoying and sometimes laughing at the loveable actions of these characters? Who ever thought that murders could be woven into a sweet, and wholesome mystery? Summer just opened a candy store in town when she stumbles upon something strange in her rose garden, and the detective side in her pops out and gets her into all kinds of trouble.

Juggling her emotions between two love rivals, a supporting group of friends and family, she digs herself deeper and deeper into this mystery, often calling on God for guidance to help her make the right choices.

I love the innocence of the characters and the plot, as it reminded me of how books could whisk you away for the pure enjoyment of reading and letting your imagination add to the written word.

This was a stand alone book, but can't wait to finish off the series, as the Cozy Mystery genre seems to continue with the main character and her sometimes off beat friends and family, finding and solving crimes to a final and satisfying outcome.

As an adult, I loved this book. Sometimes we just need a little simplicity to balance out our real life. Diamonds, chocolate, mystery, and hint of romance...good to the very last drop.

Fudge-Laced Felonies has it all ... murder, mayhem AND thievery, plus some goofy but (mostly) lovable town residents & a chocolate making/sleuthing woman with a long-standing crush on the brother of her best friend (is he, or is he not, completely clueless?!)
I think you'll be like me and enjoy this light-hearted mystery. I already bought the other 3 books in the series! LOL
★★★★★ This faith-based mystery was laced with lots of humor, adventure, and danger. We saw close family relationships with Summer, Aunt Eunice, Uncle Roy and Police man Cousin Joe. I liked the character development depicted in Summer and Ethan's relationship as Summer got into one scrape after another. The author used several other characters to keep us guessing about who was the thief and murderer. Highly recommended for cozy mystery fans.
Oh my! This was my first book by Cynthia Hockey, but it won't be my last. Due to the death of her parents Summer was raised by her Aunt and Uncle. Who have always spoiled her. April, her best friend since they were around 10 years of age , has a handsome brother, Ethan a dedicated Christian man who happens to also be extremely handsome, who Summer loves. Add a jewel thief, a beautiful woman plus a couple of murders then Nate. What a wonderful, hilariously, scary time all the while Summer is in the process of opening her own homemade candy store.
Great characters, many suspects, diamonds, cash, and lots of twists and turns. I enjoyed the scriptures throughout the mystery also. It was a great reminder for all of us to ask God what we should do in every instance of our daily lives, not just when we're in trouble. I loved the tender love story also. Since this is Book 1 of a Summer. Meadows. Mystery, I assume Summer, Aunt Eunice, Uncle Roy, Ethan, Joe and April will all be in the next books too. I've really enjoyed reading about this quaint little town in the Ozark Mountains. I would recommend it for any light reading. What is better than Chocolate, Diamonds, and Kisses???

I loved this story. The introduction I read called the series of books Christian, cozy mysteries, and that's exactly what they are, except the reviewer forgot to mention how well-written they are with an excellent storyline. Now, granted, these books are not going to be for everybody because you can tell from the way Ms Hickey writes that her faith in God is very important to her. Her references to her faith aren't just forced into the story in order to make it qualify as a Christian mystery. It is who she is and just flows naturally as she writes. By the same token, she doesn't try and shove her faith down her readers' throats.
This book is not the typical, sex-laden, over gored, profanity inundated mysteries I usually run across and I must admit I have thoroughly enjoyed the break. I can't wait to get into the other books in this series

To take the issue off the table. I have seen the book referred to as a Christian Mystery. While it is true this is a pious young woman who takes her churchgoing seriously, I shouldn't think the average reader will be put off because the heroine has religion on her mind. She is just as silly, lovelorn, injudicious, reckless, frivolous, and what you will, as the more secular young maidens one comes across (well, perhaps, there is a shortage of maidens in their late twenties these days). If you can take Going My Way, Bells of St. Mary's or Father Brown, in stride, I shouldn't think you will have a problem with this.
Now, as to the substance of the book, its my view that its chief audience should be the younger reader who would take to the contemporary equivalents of Penny Nichols, Nancy Drew and the like. In other words, while the heroine is supposed to be in her late twenties, the book portrays a character whose thought processes and behavior are those to be found in the books directed at teens rather than adults (at least the type which used to be, I make no claim to understanding what contemporary teens read or like). So rating it in terms of an adult novel, I see it as rather too frilly-silly-frivolous to be more than passable. On the other hand, it is a nice, easily read, romantic, irresponsible, incredible, tale which is rather charming for its young love aspects and its complete disregard of any degree of harsh reality. Oh, yes, as you would imagine it gets no racier than a kiss or two.
